Process Mapping and Analysis

eLearning Price: $ 20

Learn to map the current state of any process. Learn how to analyze, evaluate, and quantify the waste in a process. Learn how to use Kanbans to manage inventory in a process. Learn how to identify opportunities for improvement in any process. Learn how to build a future state process map and quantify improvement impact.

Full Description

In this course you will first learn the basics of how to map a process.  We expand on the basics and cover Current State, or As Is process mapping.  The current state is just that.  A map of what takes place now before any improvements or changes are made.  Two methods are presented, Value Steam Mapping and Deployment, or swim lane, Process Mapping.  Between these two methods you will be able to build a current state process map that depicts any process.

Once you have the current state mapped your next step is Lean Process Analysis.  You will learn to:

  • Identify value adding and non value adding activities
  • How to conduct a process activity analysis so you can quantify the improvement opportunities in the current state process.  You will also be able to use this method to quantify the magnitude of the improvements when you transition from the current state to the future state of your process.
  • Time is important in process mapping and we’ll cover
    • Cycle time
    • Processing time
    • TAKT time
    • Value add and non value add time
  • How to identify waste
  • How to use Kanban inventory management and the pull system for delivery of goods and services
  • How to use a Kanban calculator for managing inventory
  • How to build a future state value stream map that captures all your process improvements

Multi-Vari Studies, How to Quickly Find 85% of the Variation in a Product or Service

The name “Multi-Vari” was given to this form of analysis by L.A. Seder in his classic paper “Diagnosis with Diagrams,” which appeared in Industrial Quality Control in January and March 1950.  The premise is to utilize graphics to understand where the variation in a process exists.  Is it...
